About Me

I grew up in a small town in western Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh, called Ambridge.

If you know Ambridge, you know it’s one of those places where everyone seems connected somehow—by family, by history, or by a shared story passed down over kitchen tables and front porches. It’s a town shaped by steel mills and hard work, where people learned early the value of community, grit, and showing up for one another.

Growing up here meant small-town freedoms: riding bikes until the streetlights came on, knowing your neighbors by name, and feeling rooted in a place that felt familiar and safe. It also meant being surrounded by stories—stories of immigrants who built lives from nothing, of families who stayed, and of roads that always seemed to lead somewhere interesting if you followed them long enough.

Western Pennsylvania has a way of getting into your bones. The rolling hills, winding back roads, covered bridges, rivers, and little towns tucked between them all became part of who I am. Long before I ever thought about documenting travel or mapping destinations, I was already paying attention—watching how places change, how history lingers, and how every mile has something to say.

As I got older, those early experiences turned into curiosity. I wanted to know the stories behind the towns I passed through. Why a diner sat where it did. Why a bridge mattered. Why some places thrived while others quietly faded. Pennsylvania isn’t just where I’m from—it’s a living scrapbook of memories, movement, and meaning.

Pennsylvania by the Mile is my way of honoring that.

This site is about more than destinations. It’s about growing up here, leaving, coming back, and realizing that the places that shape us never really let us go. It’s about small towns like Ambridge, scenic back roads, roadside stops, forgotten history, and the beauty you find when you slow down and look a little closer.

Every mile tells a story.
And this one begins right here in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania’s heritage is built on generations of makers, builders, and storytellers. Immigrants, farmers, steelworkers, and craftsmen all left their mark, creating a state where history isn’t just remembered—it’s lived every day through its people and places.

I’m not sure I could have grown up anywhere else and become the person I am” – Jimmy Stewart, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania
